Hi Damien,

that A21 hurts a bit, doesn't it? Especially since the rest of the course is so flat, then - bam! I made it to the top easily enough but then stopped to help with that puncture.

My BeOne went well too, though I seem to have bent the rear wheel a bit somehow. I'm not sure if this happened on the day or if it's just general wear and tear. It's only a slight wobble and a bike shop will have it sorted out no problems. I'm still not happy with those stock CST tyres though, I don't find them very grippy. I think an upgrade is in order!

I saw a couple of BeOne's at the Challenge. There was a 2008 Storm 1.0 just like mine on the back of a car, a 2008 Storm 2.0, a (presumably) older Storm 3.0 and a Briza something I caught a glimpse of. I also overheard someone at registration remark "Oh look, there's a BeOne", meaning my ride.

Thanks for the info on the Freewheelers Lap of the Lough, it looks like a good ride. I'll have a think about it and the "main" Lap The Lough event.

Why do you think it's better to go around anti-clockwise?

Its the Freewheelers Lap of the Lough to raise funds for Disabled Sport NI. Its organised by Old Bleach CC and we personally think it's better than the event in late August because it goes around the lough anti-clockwise as opposed to clockwise in later August.

It's more suited to leisure cyclists (as opposed to later run which normally turns into a race) and it has a good turnout. Starts at Antrim Forum too which is handy for changing/showers/food after.

Here's an article on it:

Hi John, well done I managed 4hrs 6mins and was pretty wrecked that hill near the end was a killer. It was a pity about the weather because it looks like a beautiful part of the world while in a cloud. It must be spectacular on a sunny day ! Oh and the BeOne was perfect no breakdowns or punctures and there seemed to be a huge amount of flat tyres on other bikes.

Congratulations on your first 100.
15.6mph into a headwind is a cracking pace too!

Thanks! Not bad for a guy who couldn't cycle 2 miles a year ago without a medical team on standby, eh? The rest of the guys & gals finished around 3h30m for a 17-18mph average, which I was very impressed with. I might have been able to nudge mine up towards 16mph, but I don't think I could have touched 18mph. Still, I did very much enjoy the event and there's always next year!

I read your blog on the Inishowen 100, that sounds tough going alright. I think I might have needed that medical team again, or perhaps a motorbike.

What's this "user friendly" Lap The Lough? I hadn't heard of that.

Well done John!
Pity about the rain...
There's another 'user friendlier' version of the Lap O the Lough on the first Saturday of August if you fancy it?

We cycled Inishowen 100 on Sunday which was TOUGH as old boots but enjoyable (in a sadistic way)...

Glad you enjoyed yourself!

Good average!
