Entries to the Bangor Coastal Challenge 2009 have opened now. The cost is £20 with proceeds going to local charities.

Sunday, 21st June 2009.

North Down Cycling Club (NDCC) are proud to offer a scenic coastal route around the Ards Peninsula which has few inclines and takes a break in Portaferry for lunch. So whether you are a serious cyclist or a novice wanting to cycle the distance for the first time the NDCC Bangor Coastal Challenge is the event for you! The Challenge starts and finishes on the Old Belfast Rd. at the Bangor Sportsplex which has ample car parking and changing facilities. En-route there will be water stations, a “broom wagon” for breakdowns etc. and the event will be overseen by local police assisted by an experienced team of marshals, with motorcycle paramedics and ambulance back-up. The event is limited to 700 riders and all finishers within the time limit of 8 hours will receive a specially commissioned commemorative T-Shirt.

In keeping with my cycling goals for 2009, I’ve thrown caution to the wind, cried “What the hell!” and entered this event as my first, actual, proper sportive. I’m currently seeking like/weak minded individuals who I can rope into it with me.

Filled with confidence and enthusiasm, I’ll likely give the Lap The Lough 150Km event in August a go too and will plan my training accordingly.

The  Bangor Coastal Challenge 2009 is currently 21 weeks away, that’s plenty of time to train. I hope!
