bike geek birthday

by John Girvin | tagged: , , , , | permalink

It’s my birthday today, and being a bit of a bike geek (had you noticed?), I’d decided to put any birthday present money I received towards bikey type things. Birthday cards? Cake? Sure, those are nice. Stainless steel and carbon fibre goodies? Yes please!

My wife was kind enough to buy me the parts and tools I needed to repair my GT Zaskar LE and get it back on to the trails.

As a bit of a birthday treat she picked up some Transfil Nox brake and gear cables. These are performance oriented, sealed, stainless steel cables with lightweight carbon outers, and much higher specification than I’d ever have bought myself normally. I also got the miscellaneous parts I needed to overhaul the braking system on the Zaskar.

The second major gift was an Altura “Pocket Rocket” lightweight waterproof jacket. This is another performance oriented item, using technical materials to provide windproofing, waterproofing and breathability in a jacket that folds down small enough to fit, as the name suggests, in your pocket. It’s lightweight and fully waterproof, just what I need for the Northern Ireland summer.

Happy birthday to me, I got exactly what I wanted!

I wonder how she knew what to pick?
