cycling goals for 2009

by John Girvin | tagged: , , | permalink

I’ve set myself some cycling goals for 2009. I think they’re realistic and achievable with a certain input of effort. That’s the hard part, I guess.

They’re not new year resolutions, I don’t do those. These are just things I’d like to do.

  • Get fit enough to cycle commute 4 days every week, with occasional 5′s
  • Make time for training and social (ie: non commuting) rides
  • Get a road bike
  • Get my “classic” (ie: old) mountain bike (’95 GT Zaskar) out of storage and into the mud
  • Motivate a former mountain biking buddy back into some kind of cycling
  • Attempt a local sportive road ride
  • Eat better (I’m not too bad, but there’s room for improvement!)

Let’s see how I do!

How many miles is the commute ?

  • John Girvin says:

Between 7 and 10 miles one way, depending on the route I take. The short route gets clogged with traffic depending on the exact time of day, but it’s all downhill so it’s good if you don’t feel like putting a lot of effort in. The longer route is mostly cycle path, but flat so you need to keep pushing.

Sounds good, My morning is pretty much the same, either flat or downhill, The evening commute is the reserve, not always ideal but wakes you up after a long day in the office.
