With the numbers of cars and cyclists on the roads of the UK increasing, it’s probably inevitable that there is a corresponding increase in the number of car (or bus, truck, pedestrian) vs. cyclist “incidents” happening on a daily basis. These could be anything from a car simply passing too close for comfort, a pedestrian stepping out into the cyclist’s path without looking, right up to an actual Road Traffic Collision.
For this reason, many cyclists have started to carry compact video cameras on their regular commuting runs to record what goes on. YouTube has many examples, but a new site has been set up specifically to gather together recordings of commuting incidents: Fight Bad Driving
Fight Bad Driving was set up after a discussion between two cyclists on the way home from a commute one day. As both avid bloggers, we often discussed the dangers that we could cause and do face on a daily basis, upon this discussion, the premise for Fight Bad Driving was born.
This example video taken from the site shows a pickup truck perform a classic “left hook” manoeuvre by overtaking then immediately turning left across the cyclist’s path forcing him to stop.
"On my way up to a busy roundabout in Ashton, this guy overtakes me and tries to turn into two pedestrians. Surely he must have seen me and the pedestrians?"
Fight bad driving? Sounds like a good idea to me.

MV56 XFX, eh? Surely the video should be sent to the police for prosecution?
Hiya John – I agree but doubt the police would do anything over here. Maybe if his number plate is recorded again, then we can do something about it.
Check out another angle of the video and watch what the speeding lorry has to do because of the idiot above:

Tis a shame that absolutely nothing will get done about that muppet.
I ride the same roads as Joby does on a regular basis (not a commute) and it can get very scary at that point as you’re coming up to a large roundabout which leads onto a dual carriageway(esque) road before the other point that Joby seems to have problems on with RLJers!
I, however, will not be obtaining a camera. Cos I can’t afford one! :o(
