Yesterday I completed the Lap The Lough 140Km cycling challenge, organised by the Castle Hill Cycle club. Over 1,300 cyclists took part and I’ll have a full ride report up soon.
But for now, sadly, I have to report that one participant didn’t make it home again.
An announcement on the Lap The Lough website reads:
Most of you will already be aware of the tragic death of Bryan Hopley. We’re still unsure of the exact cause of death, but a few miles from home Bryan collapsed and died shortly afterwards. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family and also friends who were cycling with him on Sunday. We’re all devastated. Our thanks goes to the ambulance crews, paramedics and doctors, both on and off duty, who arrived within minutes and worked tirelessly to save Bryan.
I’d seen the emergency services administering CPR to this poor man on the road, but it was a disturbing scene and I didn’t hang around to gawp. I didn’t hear any more on his condition until today. It’s a touch of tragedy on an otherwise well organised event.
You can leave a message of sympathy on the Lap The Lough forums.

My thoughts go out to his family.
Sorry to hear about that.

My thoughts go out to his family at this very hard time. R.I.P. Bryan.
