Entries to 2009′s Lap The Lough are now open (actually they’ve been open since May!). Registration costs £20 online or £30 on the day.

Sunday, 30th August 2009

Lough Neagh is the largest lake in Ireland and Britain and the 3rd largest in Western Europe. At over 35km long and 20km wide needless to say it’s quite a water feature. Lap The Lough is not exclusively for the elite or club cyclist but for anyone up for a challenge. The event aims to encourage as many cyclists to do 1 lap of Lough Neagh on Sunday 30th August (Bank Holiday in the North on the following Monday!), and subsequently raise cash for good causes. We’ve tried to give as much help as possible to anyone who hasn’t attempted this distance before with a training plan and other links. So if you’ve been waiting for the opportunity to get back in the saddle … here it is!

In keeping with my cycling goals for 2009 and since I thoroughly enjoyed the Bangor Coastal Challenge 2009, I plan to enter Lap The Lough 2009 as well. At 140Km (not 150Km as I’d previously thought) it’s 40% longer again than the Bangor ride and will be a real challenge. It’s not too long though and still leaves an “imperial century” challenge (100 miles or 160Km) as a goal to work towards for 2010.

The Lap The Lough 2009 is currently only 8 weeks away. Best get training then…
