ni civil service cycle to work scheme

by John Girvin | tagged: , , | permalink

The BBC report that civil servants working in the Northern Ireland Department of Regional Development (DRD) can now join the many private sector employees already benefiting from an employer’s Cycle To Work scheme.

Through tax breaks, the salary sacrifice based Cycle To Work schemes allow employees to save up to 40% on the normal retail cost of bicycles and accessories, provided they are mostly used to commute to and from work.

Although already popular in the private sector and other public sector organisations, the DRD scheme is the the first of its kind for the Northern Ireland Civil Service. The scheme is to be rolled out across all departments next year, making more than 25,000 civil servants eligible.
