One of my cycling goals for 2009 was “attempt a local sportive road ride”. I’ve gone two better than that though and will (hopefully) enter a total of three this year: the Craigavon Cycle Trail, the Bangor Coastal Challenge and Lap The Lough.
But instead of doing it just for myself, I’ve decided to support a local charity by attracting sponsorship for taking part in these events. I’ve launched the Sponsor John! website to give full information about this fundraising work I’m doing, and to collect donations for it.
I’m raising money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), right here in Northern Ireland. I’ve set what I think is a modest and achievable goal of raising £500 over the next six or seven months.
RNIB are the UK’s leading charity offering information, support and advice to over two million people with sight loss. By sponsoring me you’ll directly help RNIB NI’s Eye Care Liason Officer service, which supports those who have been recently diagnosed with serious sight loss through very difficult times. I’ve experienced the work these officers do first hand and can testify to its importance and value.
It’s only been online a few days and sponsorjohn.com has already gathered some attention and sponsorship, but, dear reader, I could use your help.
First and foremost, please consider making a donation to this worthy cause! The minimum donation is only £2.00 and can be made easily and securely online.
If you have a personal or business blog or website of your own, any donation will earn you a link from the sponsor list displayed on the sponsorjohn.com front page. Sponsors are listed in order of amount donated and time of donation so those who make the largest, earliest donations will appear higher up the list!
As well as donating your hard earned cash, you can help by telling your family, friends and colleagues about the sponsorjohn.com website and linking to it on blogs, social networks, forums and so on.
For more information and to make a donation, please visit the website, or feel free to email me at 2009@sponsorjohn.com if you have any questions.
Thank you for your support!
