Is this the end of the ride? Maybe, maybe not. It’s the end of the beginning at least.
2009 was my first full year back at regular cycling, and it was a good one. In rediscovering the sport over the past 18 months I have found a lot to write about, but now cycling is so much a normal part of my life that it’s been increasingly difficult to find new and interesting topics for posts. The time required to maintain and update this site has become a problem too, and there are things I want and need to do in 2010 (and beyond) other than blogging.
So, new year new broom, quit while you’re ahead etc. It was fun, it was useful, then it became a pain, and now it’s sad. Rain Miles is taking a break. I’ll still be cycling as much as ever, taking part in local events and so on, and so I may occasionally post an update or a photo or two. But probably not too many.
Thank you all for reading and commenting. I really am genuinely flattered (and surprised) that so many folk dropped by each month. I wish I had the time and inspiration to maintain the site as before for you, but I don’t.
The existing articles are all still available from the Posts tab above, and you can still keep up with me on Twitter or on my other sites at girv dot net, Wee Doors Banging and johngirvin.com. The Contact form still works too.
Keep cycling. Those rain miles still count double even if I don’t write about it!
John.

Awwwwww! Well John, whatever you’re up to, do it well and may you be kept smiling! Top man. Be lucky.
That’s a real shame. I’d noticed it had been quite recently but still it best that you are upfront with your news. I could have posted a comment on one of your blogs about how your posts had become boring and you could have then threatened to quit. Anyway, I’m not crying, just wiping the tube sealant from my eye (?)
