Less than a week to go until Lap The Lough 2010 and it’s all gone quiet over Rain Miles way? Pesky work. Pesky real life. I’ll attempt a summary of the last couple of weeks.

back, and with a science part
I’d taken a bit of a break after a fairly disastrous ride into work last week, forgoing even my usual Sunday long ride. Sometimes you just know, right? So this morning I thought it was worth another shot at my 25 mile commute route, and I also took the chance to experiment with fuelling a little ahead of the big event. Here comes the science part.

belfast telegraph lagan cycle rage shocker
The Belfast Telegraph informs us that PSNI officers on bikes are to be deployed along the Lagan Towpath to tackle “cycle rage”. I take issue with this article. It’s sensationalist, misleading and short on detail.

sponsor me for lap the lough!
35Km long, 25Km wide, 150Km around, Lough Neagh is the largest lake in Ireland and Britain and the third largest in Western Europe. Once again, I’m using the event to raise sponsorship money for RNIB NI via my Sponsor John! website.

It was a tired and slightly reluctant me that dragged itself out of bed at 6:30am on a Sunday-friggin’-morning for a prearranged 50(ish) mile lap(ish) of the Ards Peninsula with Allan and Graham. Tired and reluctant due to being at a barbeque the night before, which was great fun and all, but had me feeling like the MEAT was still sitting in a solid, undigested lump in my guts. Still, up I dragged, got ready and set off for Newtownards.

strangford lap
After postponing last week due to there being a storm outside and quite a lot on TV inside, this week I finally headed out for a tour of Strangford Lough, with Allan for company.

Chapeau, silver haired guy on the old looking Saracen road bike that I encountered on the M5 cycle path this morning.

one ride, three types of idiot
You’d think a short 10-ish mile commute on what is still mostly a holiday here in Northern Ireland would be quiet and trouble free. Not so today.
